The moisture in the concrete floor must be less than 5% with no chance of any rising moisture or potential osmosis problems arising from the concrete. Surface preparation • Substrate should be sound, levelled and clean without any bond inhibiting substance, like dust, dirt, grease, oil, laitance or any loose particles to ensure maximum bonding between substrate and subsequent coating system. • • Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using rotary grinding equipment to remove laitance and achieve rough surface profile. All dust on floor must be removed ideally by vacuuming prior to primer application. New concrete substrate • Floor should be at least 28 days old and have a moisture content of less than 5% before proceeding with primer application. Laitance and deposits on new concrete f loors must be removed mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning / scarifying / rotary grinding equipment to achieve a rough textured surface. Old concrete substrate • • • • • • Concrete surface must be free from any bond inhibiting surface like dirt, oil, grease, wax, fatty acids, coatings, any surface treatments, etc. If contaminated with oil, grease, wax, fatty acids the surface must be treated with alkaline / detergent scrubbing, steam cleaning or chemical cleaning. Acids and alkalis can be removed by neutralizing to form a water soluble salt and then high pressure water cleaning and mopping it off to dry state. Hydrophobic contaminants can be identified by a simple water drop test. Other contaminants can be identified by pH. In the areas where the contaminants cannot be removed, complete removal and replacement of the contaminated surface is typically considered Weak concrete must be removed and surface defects such as blowholes, excess porosity, voids and must be fully exposed and suitably treated to achieve smooth uniform surface. High spots must be removed by grinding.

Prior to the installation of SikaBit® W-15, a layer of very smooth and solid cement concrete is required as a substrate. No standing water is allowed. SikaBit® W-15 is then unrolled and aligned. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by min. 80 mm and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. The overlaps need to be staggered. After removal of the release liner a modified cement concrete screed is applied to all horizontal areas. POST-Application This method applies for waterproofing of walls, podium slabs and concealed roofs. Prior to the installation of SikaBit® W-15 the concrete needs to be saturated by water (use water hose). Any protrusions need to be removed and the concrete surface needs to be cleaned. A bonding adhesive SikaBit® W-1 (with approximate of 2–3 kg/m2) is applied to the substrate. Then the SikaBit® W-15 membrane is unrolled and pressed into the fresh adhesive after removal of the release liner. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by min. 80 mm and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. The overlaps need to be staggered. SikaBit® W-15 is not UV-stabilized and shall not be used on structures where it is permanently exposed to weathering. The installed SikaBit® W-15 shall be protected against mechanical damage with a suitable protective layer. It takes a about seven days for the bond strength between the membrane and the concrete substrate to fully develop. Manual testing of the bond-strength (cross-cut peel-off test) is recommended prior to backfilling especially in case of low ambient temperatures. Bitumen Primer seals porous substrates and promotes the adhesion of bituminous waterproofing systems and sheet coverings. It may be applied to a range of surfaces:- ??? Concrete ??? Slate, lightweight concrete screeds Colour: Black Method of Application: Bitumen Primer should be applied by brush ensuring an even coat with no pooling, or applied evenly by airless spray. Instructions: Care needs to be taken over preparation of surfaces before application. All surfaces must be free from oil, dirt, dust and loose debris. On metal surfaces all loose rust should be removed using a wire brush and where advanced signs of corrosion are evident the area be treated with a rust inhibitor. Surfaces should be dry for best results, although Bitumen Primer will adhere to damp but not wet surfaces. Bitumen Primer is resistant to rainfall within 20-30 minutes of application. Coverage: The coverage per litre is dependent upon the porosity of the surface:- ??? Metal surfaces: 6-12m² per litre ??? Concrete: 6-8m² per litre ??? Lightweight concrete screeds and asbestos cement: 3.5-5m² per litre. Cleaning Tools: Tools may be cleaned with White Spirit. Minor spillages should be wiped off surfaces immediately before the product has set. Major spillages should be mopped up immediately with an inert, absorbent material, such as sand and disposed of in accordance with regulations.
