Wet-applied, modified bitumen waterproofing membraneDESCRIPTION SikaBit® W-15 is a double-sided modified bitumen waterproofing membrane for wet-application. It consists of a cross-laminated PE film and two modified bitumen layers covered with silver release liners. Prior to the installation of SikaBit® W-15, a layer of very smooth and solid cement concrete is required as a substrate. No standing water is allowed. SikaBit® W-15 is then unrolled and aligned. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by min. 80 mm and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. The overlaps need to be staggered. After removal of the release liner a modified cement concrete screed is applied to all horizontal areas. POST-Application This method applies for waterproofing of walls, podium slabs and concealed roofs. Prior to the installation of SikaBit® W-15 the concrete needs to be saturated by water (use water hose). Any protrusions need to be removed and the concrete surface needs to be cleaned. A bonding adhesive SikaBit® W-1 (with approximate of 2–3 kg/m2) is applied to the substrate. Then the SikaBit® W-15 membrane is unrolled and pressed into the fresh adhesive after removal of the release liner. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by min. 80 mm and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. SikaBit® W-15 is not UV-stabilized and shall not be used on structures where it is permanently exposed to weathering. The installed SikaBit® W-15 shall be protected against mechanical damage with a suitable protective layer. It takes a about seven days for the bond strength between the membrane and the concrete substrate to fully develop. Manual testing of the bond-strength (cross-cut peel-off test) is recommended prior to backfilling especially in case of low ambient temperatures. Description: A low viscosity, high penetration, cold applied bituminous solution designed to prime and seal porous roof surfaces prior to the application of bituminous materials. Bitumen Primer seals porous substrates and promotes the adhesion of bituminous waterproofing systems and sheet coverings. It may be applied to a range of surfaces:- ??? Concrete ??? Asbestos cement ??? Metals – mild steel, zinc & lead ??? Slate, lightweight concrete screeds Colour: Black Method of Application: Bitumen Primer should be applied by brush ensuring an even coat with no pooling, or applied evenly by airless spray. Instructions: Care needs to be taken over preparation of surfaces before application. All surfaces must be free from oil, dirt, dust and loose debris. On metal surfaces all loose rust should be removed using a wire brush and where advanced signs of corrosion are evident the area be treated with a rust inhibitor. Surfaces should be dry for best results, although Bitumen Primer will adhere to damp but not wet surfaces. Bitumen Primer is resistant to rainfall within 20-30 minutes of application. Coverage: The coverage per litre is dependent upon the porosity of the surface:- ??? Metal surfaces: 6-12m² per litre ??? Concrete: 6-8m² per litre ??? Lightweight concrete screeds and asbestos cement: 3.5-5m² per litre. Cleaning Tools: Tools may be cleaned with White Spirit. Minor spillages should be wiped off surfaces immediately before the product has set. Major spillages should be mopped up immediately with an inert, absorbent material, such as sand and disposed of in accordance with regulations. Container Size: 1, 2.5, 5 & 25 VOC Details: EU Limit for this product CAT. 2(h) : 750g/l (2010). This product contains max. 450g/l VOC’s. Storage: Indefinite in undamaged, tightly sealed containers. Containers must be kept sealed and stored away from sources of heat and ignition.
